Foodland Donates Much-Needed Supplies to Women’s Safety Services SA
18 June 2020
Foodland is proud to have donated $3,300 worth of stock to women and children experiencing and/or escaping domestic and family violence across South Australia.
Foodland worked with Members of the SA Legislative Council the Hon Frank Pangallo and the Hon Connie Bonaros, to make the donation happen.
The goods were donated directly to Women’s Safety Services SA (WSSSA), an organisation that supports women and their children who are experiencing domestic and family violence.
“We are committed to the belief that all women and children have the right to live safely in their homes,” Maria Hagias, CEO of WSSSA says. “When women contact us, whether through the Domestic Violence Crisis Line or one of our programs directly, we believe them, hear their story, talk with them about their concerns and support their safety.
Foodland has donated goods across multiple categories, including household cleaning products, as well as women’s health and hygiene essentials.
“As the Mighty South Aussies, it is our role and our responsibility to ensure we are providing essentials to all South Australians in need,” Christopher Villani, General Manager of Marketing and Merchandise at Foodland Supermarkets, says. “In these trying times, it is important that we give back to those who need it most. Women and young children have the right to have safe access to these essential items.”
“We know that all of the goods donated, which range from soap, to disinfectant, to paper towels, are in great demand across Women Safety Services SA’s seven sites.”
Maria Hagias was overwhelmed with the donation from Foodland.
“Our services have been particularly busy during this pandemic, and we are incredibly grateful for Foodland’s support that in turn helps us to support those experiencing domestic violence,” she says.
“Foodland’s very generous donation will mean the women and children we are supporting don’t have to worry about how they will pay for, or safely retrieve their groceries. It is one less pressure during the toughest period of their lives.”
She adds: “It was like Christmas on Friday when the enormous delivery arrived!”
The much-needed goods were delivered to Women’s Safety Services SA Head Office at Mile End on Friday, the 12th of June, and will be supplied to those in need from this week onwards.
